November 2013

This past fall, more than 100 ZPS parents, staff, and students volunteered an entire day of their time to carve out future goals for Zeeland Public Schools.  This event, called Futures 2025, will help guide the way for classroom content and operation for many years. Thank you for taking part.  The videos below feature the helpful presentations given by business and education leaders and a wrap-up by Superintendent Cal De Kuiper.

Who ARE the Grokkers?! We find out in this revealing video!

What Every Parent Should Know (April 9, 2013):

What are the Common Core and Smarter Balanced movements all about? ZPS educators met with parents for Curriculum Night, reviewing curriculum changes ahead at the secondary and elementary levels, with plenty of time for questions.

March, 2013

Tony DiLaura, an instructional technology specialist at ZPS, has been named an Apple Distinguished Scholar for his outstanding work in making technology a vital part of the school day. Here, Tony talks about Play, Passion, and Purpose; the role of iPads at ZPS; and his job creating videos that help explain technology.

January and March 2013

The two videos below demonstrate the power of one-to-one technology using iPads  at Zeeland Public Schools. Below left, teacher Ben Braymer’s fifth grade students focus on the wetlands in Quincy Elementary’s back yard to complete a variety of lessons in math, writing, economics, and ecology. Below right, Creekside Middle School teacher Tara Maynard has flipped her math classes, creating a host of handy iBook lessons for her geometry students to study at home.  Check them out!

From left to right below are a tribute to all ZPS employees in April 2012;  the memorable dedication of Adams Elementary in September, 2012; and the final interview of Cal De Kuiper in November 2012 for the job of ZPS superintendent.

In the four videos below, taped in December 2011, Zeeland kindergarten teachers describe the benefits of all-day, every-day kindergarten.  In the fall of 2012, all public schools, including ZPS, moved to the all-day, every-day approach.  Plus, all Zeeland kindergartners reported to their elementary schools for class rather than attend classes under one roof.

Special section: the 2011 rollout of iPads at Zeeland Public Schools

The next series of videos tell the story of Zeeland Public Schools’ historic rollout of iPads to each student at Zeeland East and West High Schools. They are listed in chronological order, starting with the earliest video. Immediately below is a series of three informational videos shared with parents and community prior to the iPad rollout.

The three videos below recap the historic rollout of 1,550 iPads to Zeeland high school students. Lower left, more than 250 teachers learn how to use the iPad during the summer. Next is a one-minute video capturing the action of the rollout on August 30, 2011. At right is short lesson that “Tap” and “Slide” share with students and parents prior to signing out an iPad for the school year.  Zeeland’s historic iPad rollout was featured in USA Today.

Below, view two videos about daily use of iPads in Zeeland high school classrooms.
