Fitness Classes

Our Cold West Pool is now closed until mid-late October to allow for our HVAC system to be replaced. We originally planned for a September 6 reopening, but the shipping of the HVAC system that needs to be replaced is taking longer than expected. Until we have a firm grasp on the exact date that our cold pool will be allowed to reopen, we will be releasing month-by-month calendars for the Rec Warm Pool and Zeeland West Natatorium. All updated pool schedules are highlighted below. Thank you for your patience!

fitness class DESCRIPTIONS

BARRE FUSION (12 Yr Olds-Adults)

This is an upbeat, low-impact strength workout that enhances your muscle tone, posture and flexibility! This class blends ballet, strength training, music and mind-body movement. All exercises will focus on precision and concentration for ultimate results. Each movement can be modified to match your unique skill and strength levels.

CARDIO SCULPT (12 Yr Olds-Adults)

This is a circuit-style class that combines cardio, strength and core training into a fun full body workout. Each workout includes HIIT (high intensity interval training), strength training and powerful Pilate moves that will help you burn calories and tone muscles while also improving flexibility, balance, and core strength.

CLASSICAL YOGA - LEVEL 1 (12 Yr Olds-Adults)

This is the perfect class for those new to yoga! Join us to develop muscle strength/tone, improve balance/posture, increase flexibility, reduce injuries and to feel GREAT! This beginner level class is taught in the Iyengar Method, which focuses on accessibility for all ages and body types. If you’re unsure between Levels 1 and 2, attend Level 1 first and then speak with the instructor before or after class for guidance on the best class for you.

CLASSICAL YOGA - LEVEL 2 (12 Yr Olds-Adults)

This class is for more experienced yogis. The emphasis will be on increasing endurance and refining individual corrections in order to help you develop muscle strength/tone, improve balance/posture, increase flexibility, reduce injuries and to feel GREAT. In this advanced level class, a wider variety of complicated poses are introduced, including inversions and backbends. Participants are encouraged to attend our Level 1 class before joining Level 2 so our instructor can recommend the best class for you.

DEEP H20 (12 Yr Olds-Adults)

Deep H2O uses the water’s resistance to deliver an excellent full body workout appropriate for all fitness levels!

FIRM H2O (12 Yr Olds-Adults)

Each class includes 30-minutes of shallow water high intensity interval training followed by 30-minutes of strength and endurance training throughout the pool for an effective total body workout!

GENTLE YOGA

This gentle yoga class is perfect for both seniors and beginners! Join us to ensure you remain independent and enjoy a full life as you age. Participants will develop muscle strength/tone, improve balance/posture, increase flexibility, reduce injuries and to feel GREAT! This beginner level class is taught in the Iyengar Method, which focuses on accessibility for all ages and body types. HOLIDAY HUSTLE FITNESS CHALLENGE (12 Yr Olds-Adults)

Give yourself the gift of good health and join the "Holiday Hustle Fitness Challenge"! Many Americans gain up to 5 pounds during the holiday season and studies show that most keep that holiday weight on each year, which can add up over time. To help with that, this six-week challenge is designed to challenge you to maintain or even lose weight throughout the holiday season! Participants of this challenge will receive weekly emails with holiday survival tips, recipes, at-home workouts, and challenges to help you be healthy and active throughout the holiday season. During the registration process, you will be asked to report your official starting weight, pledge to workout 3x/per week (which you can do at Zeeland Rec or elsewhere) and reserve your festive Holiday Hustle t-shirt! At the conclusion of the challenge on Jan 2, you will be asked to report your final weight. If you weigh-in at or below your starting weight, we’ll give you a $15 Zeeland Recreation program credit!

A high energy class that combines shallow and deep water components to improve strength, endurance and cardiovascular performance.

INTRO TO SPIN (12 Yr Olds-Adults)

You’ll be ready to ride after this FREE 30-minute technique class that covers bike setup, technique and spin lingo. Join us to burn some serious calories and to get an awesome aerobic and lower body workout!

LAZY MAN TRIATHLON (12 Yr Olds-Adults)

Ready for a challenge? Join us for our Lazy Man Triathlon to get in GREAT shape! Participants will first choose which challenge they want to participate in (Ironman, Olympic, Sprint or Team Relay). Then, each participant will log the mileage they complete between Jan 2-Feb 11 (you can complete your running, walking, biking and swimming at Zeeland Rec or elsewhere - separate fees apply). Those who complete their mileage distances earn a chance to win some great prizes! All participants receive a t-shirt and a mileage log to track their distances!

NEW! 100 MILE SWIM CLUB (8 Yr Olds-Adults)

Want to get in great shape? Become a part of the Zeeland Recreation “100 Mile Swim Club” by swimming 100 miles in 12 months! Participants will keep track of your miles after each lap swim or water fitness workout on the tracking sheet that will be located on our pool deck at Zeeland Recreation pools. You’ll then be able to follow your progress through our monthly postings. If you hit your goal you will not only be feeling and looking great, but you’ll also receive a Zeeland Recreation towel and a 100-Mile Club decal sticker to show off your achievement! Start any time of the year! Simply stop in our fitness center to get started! All swim styles and techniques are welcome.

    • 100 miles = 165,000 yards or 3,300 laps
    • 1 mile + 1,650 yards, 66 lengths or 33 laps
    • Length = One end of the pool to the other end (25 yards)
    • Lap = Down and back (50 yards)
    • 2 miles a week = 100 miles in 50 weeks
    • 3 miles a week = 100 miles in 33 weeks
    • 1 mile a day x 5 days a week = 100 miles in 20 weeks
