--The 7th grade girls soccer team had yet another back and forth battle yesterday with the Wildcats of Jenison.  Jenison drew first blood but the Chix equalized not long after with a goal by Sophie Kolezar assisted by Kate Meeuwsen.  We went down 2-1 and then Sophie tied it back up with a pass from Taylor Heer.  We went down 3-2 and then Carmen Maldonado made her presence know not once but twice, scoring 2 goals both other fantastic passes from Sophie Kolezar, helping the Chix win 4-3.  Katie Chalmers was once again a beast in goal and all the girls played really well as a team.  And as a bonus, Coach Good kept a clean sheet by not getting a card from the ref this game!  The girls travel across town to take on Zeeland Christian next Tuesday.

--The 8th grade soccer team played a tough Jenison squad and ended the game in a 2-2 tie. Lucy Tubergen and Addison Hathaway both scored in the game.  Playing great in goal was Olivia Wilson.  The team plays at Zeeland Christian on Tuesday.

--If you would like to be on the CREW for The Little Mermaid Jr, there will be a short crew meeting TODAY in the choir room from 10:45-11:00 right after school. See Mrs. Roels with any questions!

--At the tennis match yesterday, the Chix were butter because they were on a roll as they beat Grandville by a score of 6 to 2.  Several of the matches were close and a few were decided by tie breakers that Cityside pulled out.   Winning matches for the Chix were Brady Schanski, Charlie Reese, Andy Johnson/Karsten Meyer, Joe Hirdes/Colton Grill, Payton Ott/Jailen Nesbitt, Seth VanTimmerman/Gibson Meyering, and Caven Fisher/Jack VanDis.

--The 7th grade girls soccer team lost a hard fought battle with a very good Hudsonville team yesterday, 1-3.  Scoring for the Chix was Taylor Heer off a great pass from Ali Keaton.  The team had many other close chances but couldn't find the back of the net again.  Katie Chalmers had another great game in goal making several incredible saves.    And coach Good got his 2nd career yellow card while Mr. Timmer dodged getting one (a benefit of co-coaching this year) haha.  The girls take on Jenison tomorrow.

We should have something rolled out within the next month or so, to begin July 1, 2021.  iPads are still covered under your current insurance if you purchased it.  Everyone will be given the opportunity to purchase Chromebook insurance once the plans have been solidified. Thank you!

--If your child will not be in school, for any reason, you MUST call the attendance line at 748-3205. Thank you!

--If you are picking your child up from school for any reason you must call the office before we will let them go.  You may also call their cell phone in addition to the office, but the office must hear from you.  616-748-3250. Thank you!

--May Be.Nice Newsletter ~ This newsletter is intended to help increase awareness and decrease the stigma associated with our mental health.  Important information on the Love & Lean Walk for Mental Health to be held on April 24 is attached.

--Any message needing to get to a student must be received by 12:30 pm. We call students down at the beginning of their last hour during announcements so we are not disturbing classroom instruction time.

--GOOD  NEWS!  The free lunch and breakfast grant that was to expire in December, has now been extended.  Free lunch and breakfast for all students in ZPS will continue for the ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR.  No matter what your family's income is, a full lunch and a full breakfast is free to all students every day! All meals (breakfast and lunch) are served at NO COST to all ZPS students. You can find your schools menu at https://www.zps.org/parents/food-service/. Only complete meals are free. A complete breakfast or lunch has to have 3 items, one item must be a fruit or vegetable. An entree is usually considered two items (protein/grain). A complete meal is an entree, fruit and/ or vegetable, milk. This is a great way to have your child eat a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO cost to you!

--We can no longer allow food to be delivered from area restaurants to our students for lunch.  We aren't allowed to sign your credit card receipts, and often the order only comes with a student's first name on it making it very difficult for us to know who it is for.  Students often don't know a lunch is being delivered for them, so they don't come to pick it up and the food goes uneaten. Thanks for understanding!

SPORT SIGN-UPS:  All registration and sports signups will be done online in the Final Forms website at www.zeeland-mi.finalforms.com. Parents and students need to register once a year for all of the sports you will be playing or think you might want to play. ----Cityside is a Unified Champion School, which means we pledge to RESPECT, INCLUDE, and ACCEPT everyone. Our ZLinks DEAR classes have designed t-shirts that will be for sale for ALL students and staff before school each day the week of April 26 for only $5 each. We will also have FREE bracelets for all students who make the pledge to accept, include, and respect. Look for Mrs. Sluiter in the front lobby before school. Our Unified Soccer Teams will have live-streamed games on Thursday and Friday during DEAR/DEAL. Thanks for doing your part to promote kindness and inclusion!

--8th graders: Please check your email for an email from Mrs. Huizenga about Celebr8!  It is a tradition every year to have 8th grade Celebr8! on the last day of school.  Celebr8! is a celebration of your middle school years.  We treat you to breakfast, have music/dance performances by our performing arts groups, show an 8th grade video, and have some of you speak to your peers about middle school memories and advice for high school.  Right now, we are busy planning for your special day!  We need 2 things from you! Pictures and/or short video clips for the Celebr8! video, and for some of you to speak to your peers on this special day.  Interested in speaking? See the email or this flyer for details.  You will need to "tryout" to be a speaker at the event.  You will schedule a time to meet with Mrs. Huizenga during DEAR to go over your speech if you want to speak. See the email for details about how to submit pictures or videos for the main Celebr8! video by May 14th.  Please see Mrs. Huizenga with any questions about this celebration or email her at shuizeng@zps.org.  Thank you!

--Just a reminder:  Although the drinking fountains are closed, we do have water bottle filling stations throughout the school building.  Please remember to bring a refillable water bottle from home.  Thank you.

--It looks like some of the lost and found items have found their homes, but there is still a lot of stuff waiting to be found.   If you're missing a hoodie, water bottle, bus tag, lunch box or some other random item, please make a point to stop by and check to see if you and your missing item or items can be reunited at last.  They miss you!  We'll soon be donating any unclaimed items.

--Reminder: For safety reasons and because it is school policy, you may NOT wear your hood or a hat in school.

--Please be sure you are keeping your mask covering both your mouth and your nose while you are in school.  The only exception is when you are eating lunch.  PLEASE make sure you have your mask with you when leaving your house in the morning!  Helpful tip:  Have a spare in your backpack or car to grab if you forgot to take one when you left the house.

--Reminder - your phones are ONLY allowed out before and after school and during passing time.  If you can't resist checking it, keep it in your backpack.  For your first offense, your phone will be kept in the office and picked up at the end of the day as well as earn you 2 lunch detentions.  Your second offense means your parents will have to come pick up your phone from the office and you will earn 4 lunch detentions.  Make good choices!

--Students, if you have your school ID card, please bring it to the lunch line if possible.  It is more sanitary if everyone doesn't need to touch the keypad and scanning it really helps to speed up the lunch line. Thanks!

--Students:  Please do NOT throw snow or ice before or after school while waiting for your bus or ride home, or while on mask breaks or outside at lunch.  Thank you.

--Reminder - when you arrive in the morning, please go straight to your first class of the day.  Too many students are currently roaming the hallway before school.  Students caught roaming the hallway will earn lunch detentions.  Thanks for your help following the Covid guidelines.

--Students when you leave school early for any reason, you MUST go through the office and let them know you are leaving.  Thank you.

--Please make sure that you have downloaded the iBoss app onto your iPad; this app needs to stay on your iPad to help with internet issues during remote learning. Also, please check your iPads to see if you need to download any software updates.  You should shut your iPad all the way off at least once a day.  Also, please do NOT remove your iPad case; you risk breaking the screen and it voids the insurance warranty.  If you need any help, please see Mrs. Nelson in the CBC.

--Students!  If you are having download or app issues, please check your iPad settings to see if you need to download and install a software update.  This could help fix some of the common issues that some of you are dealing with. And don't forget to charge your iPad every single night!

--Your email app on your iPad is not working correctly; Technology is aware of this, and the fix needs to come from Apple so for now, you will need to send and receive your email from Safari.  Make sure you set up a bookmark for this to make it quick and easy.

----Students, if you did not get a public library card through your ELA class this fall and would still like one, please see Mrs. Vredeveld in the media center.  This card allows you to access public library books through the Libby app on your iPad and it's free!

--The Chix Mix is coming up!  In-person auditions for the Chix Mix (Cityside's talent show) are Monday, May 3 and Tuesday, May 4 after school in the performing arts room.  This year, I am also accepting auditions by video.  Video auditions are due to me by 3pm on Tuesday, May 4.  Video auditions can be sent to Mrs. Landes at jlandes@zps.org.  Auditions results will be announced by Friday, May 7.  The Chix Mix performance will be during school hours on Friday, May 28.  The goal is to have both an in-person audience and a livestream.  Details on how to watch the performance will be announced later in May.  All talents are welcome to audition!  In the past, we have had vocalists, instrumentalists, dancers, comedians, karate acts, magicians, and a variety of other talents.  We are looking forward to seeing what you come up with.  Acts can be performed as solos or with a group of people.  Please email questions to Mrs. Landes at jlandes@zps.org.
